WHO EMRO RC71: Promoting collaborative action to accelerate the response to antimicrobial resistance in the Eastern Mediterranean Region
IFPMA delivered a statement at the 71st session of the WHO EMRO Regional Committee on Promoting collaborative action to accelerate the response to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. The statement welcomed the ambitious agenda set forth by the UN Member States and emphasized the importance of a sustainable AMR response for achieving universal health coverage (UHC) and health security. The report highlighted the need to address the antibiotic pipeline and access challenges, including working with industry. Pull incentives could bring about renewed investment and innovation, potentially leading to twice as many antibiotic approvals and three times as many clinical development projects. However, innovation alone is not enough; access to both new and existing antibiotics is key. Vaccines are also included in the report, and the innovative pharmaceutical industry remains committed to working with stakeholders in accelerating action on AMR.
